In January 2009, a severe ice storm blanketed much of the Ohio valley and Western Appalachia. It hit Kentucky especially hard, leaving large stretches of land with hardly a single tree standing and hundreds of thousands of household without power for up to two weeks. This little reportage shows the destruction wreaked in Lexington, which should give an inkling of what it was like elsewhere in the area. There was a terrible beauty in it.
